Overview

What Has Edinburgh Ever Done For Us? takes visitors on a guided walking tour of Edinburgh as seen through its world-beating history of invention and discovery.

It takes in both the Old Town and New Town, with nooks and crannies along the way, recounting the stories of the people who invented refrigeration, the telephone, the fire brigade, the fax machine, the spacesuit, waterproof clothing, anaesthetic, and so much more.

The guide is a journalist who has researched inventions and discoveries over many years and has published the definitive book on the inventions and discoveries of Scotland, England and Wales: The Complete Book of British Firsts.
