What To Expect

Aberdour Castle and Gardens
Heading out of Edinburgh you will cross over the beautiful Firth of Forth and to the ruins of Aberdour Castle. This 12th century castle doubled up in Outlander as the Monastery where Clare and Murtagh brought Jamie to recover from his awful ordeal in the prison. The castle sits with a splendid view of the coast though you might be most interested in the Kitchen and Long Gallery which were used for filming.

Falkland
Continuing your tour we will visit the quaint village of Falkland which sits amongst the Lomond Hills. Falkland was transformed in Outlander to appear as Inverness in 1946 we can see Mrs Bairds Bed and Breakfast as The Covenanters Hotel situated in the heart of the historic village opposite the notable ‘Bruce fountain’ and Falkland Palace and all the picturesque Lomond Hills in the background.

The parish church on the village square became  Dalneigh Parish Church for the tv show and just a little way along the street.  Violin Shop Falkland was changed into H. Allingham’s Music Shop whereas Lomond Pharmacy was transformed into Campbell’s Cafe. In a case of life imitating art, as soon as the filming finished, a real life Campbells Coffee House opened up too!
