What To Expect

Culross
We depart northwards over the river Forth to the idyllic village of Culross for a photo stop and our morning refreshment break. The Palace is closed but the village has been used for many of the outdoor scenes in Outlander. Events in the village inspired the scenes portraying the witchcraft trials.

60 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Doune Castle
After leaving Culross we travel to the 15th century Doune Castle, used for many indoor and outdoor scenes in Outlander as Castle Leoch, the fictional home of the Mackenzie Clan. Here you will be able to spend time exploring inside and outside the castle, and have the opportunity to listen to an audio guide that includes actor Sam Heughan discussing his time on set there.

1 hours • Admission Ticket Not Included

Callendar House
Our lunch stop is the magnificent Callendar House, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch in the drawing room restaurant! This palace has Jacobite connections and exhibitions, and is the location of the scenes in the kitchen at Bellhurst Manor, where costumed guides will share points of interest.

Linlithgow Palace
We will continue on our journey, passing Linlithgow Palace, which is sadly closed for renovations. It was used as the fictional portrayal of Wentworth Prison in Outlander and has several connections to the Jacobites.

• Admission Ticket Free

Blackness Castle
This will bring us to Blackness Castle, known as “The Ship that Never Sailed” because of its unique shape and coastal location. Used to portray Fort William in Outlander, we will spend time here before a short drive brings us back in time for your night in Edinburgh.
